Warning Signs Your Brakes Need Looking At

These are the things people usually notice before a brake problem gets serious:

  • Squealing or grinding when you brake
  • Shuddering or vibration through the pedal or steering wheel
  • Car pulling to one side when braking
  • Soft or spongy pedal feel
  • Pedal sitting lower than usual
  • Taking longer to stop than normal
  • Brake warning light on the dash
  • Burning smell after driving in traffic

Any of these is worth a proper look. Brake problems do not fix themselves and the longer you leave them the more they tend to cost.

Brake Upgrades for Towing, 4WD and Performance

Standard factory brakes are built for standard driving. If you are regularly towing a caravan or trailer, taking a 4WD off-road, or just want better stopping performance, an upgrade can make a real difference to how your vehicle handles and stops.

We can advise on what suits your vehicle and how you use it. We work on all makes and models including passenger cars, SUVs, utes and 4WDs, and we carry a range of quality brake components suitable for heavy-duty and performance applications.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a brake pad replacement cost?

It varies depending on the vehicle, the type of pad and whether the rotors need machining or replacing at the same time. The best way to get an accurate figure is to call us on 07 5495 6655 or bring it in for a look. We will give you a clear quote before any work starts.

When should I replace my brake pads?

Most mechanics recommend replacing pads when they get down to around 3mm. By the time you hear squealing they are usually at that point or past it. If you are not sure, have them checked at your next service rather than waiting for a noise.

How do I know if my brake pads need replacing?

Squealing when you brake is usually the wear indicator telling you the pads are getting low. Grinding means they have worn through and the rotor is likely being damaged too. Catching it early is almost always cheaper.

How long do brake pads last?

Anywhere from 25,000km to 70,000km depending on the vehicle, your driving style and conditions. Stop-start city driving wears pads much faster than highway driving. The best way to keep on top of it is to have them checked at every service.

Can I still drive with worn brake pads?

Technically yes but you really should not. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances, and if they wear through completely the rotor gets damaged and the repair bill goes up significantly. More importantly it is a safety risk. Get it sorted sooner rather than later.

What are the signs of bad brake rotors?

Shuddering or vibration through the pedal or steering wheel when braking is the most common sign. You might also notice the car pulling to one side, uneven braking, or visible scoring on the rotor face. If any of these sound familiar, get them inspected.

Can I drive with bad rotors?

You can but it is not safe and it will get worse. Damaged rotors reduce braking performance and put extra stress on pads and calipers. A rotor that could have been machined early on often needs full replacement by the time it is badly worn.

Can you machine my rotors instead of replacing them?

Sometimes yes. If the rotor still has enough material left and is not cracked or too warped, machining can bring it back to a usable surface and save on cost. We will measure them and give you a straight answer either way.

Do you work on all vehicle types?

Yes. Passenger cars, SUVs, utes, 4WDs and fleet vehicles. All makes and models.

How long does a brake repair take?

A standard pad and rotor replacement is usually done the same day. More involved jobs take longer. We will give you a realistic timeframe when you book in.

Where are you located?
